Library Hack: Sentence Strip Chart as Message Sign Display

 When I became our school's librarian last year, there were no budget monies available to improve the appearance of our walls and engage our readers.  What to do... what to do...

Having taught kindergarten for a quarter of a century, I had quite the collection of pocket charts including some that could accommodate sentence strips... signage plus pocket chart (plus lettering, plus bunting and oversized leaves)... EUREKA!

... and... 

Voilà!  (No, it's not "wallah," dear readers.)


Clear pushpins, seasonal bunting and die cuts, and pre-printed punchout letters fill the space nicely, and the message can be updated as often as needed!  If any of the letters tip or roll to the right or left, I just put a little piece of tape on the back which sticks nicely to the clear plastic or backing material.

... alas, the oversized leaf cutouts seem to no longer be available on Amazon, but there are plenty of alternatives

Bunting or banners can be found in all sorts of places each month, such as the Target Dollar Spot, Etsy, or Amazon (you can even make some if you're crafty!)

See?  We don't always need a staple board!
